Leta Cooper M.S.S.W.



Leta Cooper, M.S.S.W., is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  A 1977 graduate of West Virginia University, Leta provides individual, family, couples and group therapy to adults and adolescents.

Before joining Middletown Counseling, Leta worked in the psychiatric unit at Beebe Hospital as a Psychiatric Social Worker/Family Therapist.  Other previous positions were at the Alcohol Counseling Center at Muhlenberg Medical Center in Bethlehem, PA, and as a Family Therapist and Clinical Director at Delaware Guidance Services. Leta has been in private practice in Pennsylvania and Delaware for about 15 years, dedicating her efforts to:

  Custody Evaluations
Sexual Abuse
ADHD
Substance Abuse
Family and Couple/Marital Problems
Depression
Anxiety
Adjustment Disorders
HIV
HIPAA Regulations and other issues

Leta's  specialized education includes training as a Certified Structural Family Therapist at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic under Salvador Minuchin and his team.  She is also skilled in Gestalt Therapy and Contingency Management.  In addition, Leta has both conducted  and  completed workshops on various topics including Substance Abuse, Communication Skills, Family Therapy, Assertiveness Training, and Custody Evaluations, to name just a few.   For 10 years, Leta served on the Family Law Commission for the State of Delaware.

Leta previously taught at Delware Tech.  Currently, besides her duties at Middletown Counseling, she is the liaison for social work students at Delaware State University.  In this capacity, she facilitates students' field placements at various agencies throughout DE, MD, DC, PA and NJ,  Leta also assists professors in teaching various courses and supports Mental Health Family Services.
